Couple's Counseling (60-75 minutes)
In couple's therapy, your relationship is the focus of treatment. There are no "bad guys" in the room, only patterns of interacting with one another that no longer work. I use a mixture of Gottman's couples therapy and attachment-based emotion focused couples therapy to address different issues that couples face. We will explore what works within your relationship, and where support in communication, connection, or compassion for one another are needed.
I also offer specific parenting support sessions that focus on creating a more positive family dynamic. Whether you are struggling with the transition to being parents to a newborn, or at a loss for how to manage your teenager, I am happy to help. I am trained in the Parents as Teachers model for early childhood education, as well as multisystemic family therapy to address adolescent behaviors for parents.
Individual Psychotherapy (30 - 60 minutes)
My goal for individual therapy is always first and foremost to ensure that you feel comfortable, authentic, and that you are in an environment that feels supportive and judgement free. Therapy can be vulnerable and intimating at times, especially when you first begin. I use a mixture of humor, psychoeducation, and reflection based insight to partner with you in treatment. Together, we set goals that make sense for your life and what you want to change, learn, or discover about yourself.
I utilize a trauma-informed approach to treatment generally, and have experience treating anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and PTSD. I am happy to collaborate with other providers to ensure the best quality of care for your treatment.
New mothers and parents who are looking for support are welcome to bring their young infants into any session. Postpartum support is something close to my heart, and I'm happy to provide flexible options for parents who need therapy following pregnancy and birth.
Walk and Talk Therapy (60 minutes)
My Colchester office is conveniently located .5 miles from the Colchester Spur Airline Trail and 3 minutes walk from the Town Green. Walk and Talk therapy provides a different modality to processing emotions by literally moving through them and moving forward. Research is clear that exercise can provide similar positive impacts as antidepressant medication, when done on a regular basis.
Whether you're interested in making your weekly session outside or supplementing in-office sessions with a walk, walk and talk therapy can be incredibly beneficial for anyone.
Being outside does come with the implied understanding that client confidentiality cannot be promised. We will discuss beforehand what the expectations are for maintaining confidentiality and individual comfort with session topics while being in public spaces.
My Therapeutic Approach & Experience
I believe in the power of a therapeutic relationship as the foundation to creating change in a client's life. A relationship with a therapist is unlike other relationships, in that it is centered around your wellbeing with no expectation of reciprocity. This allows space for you to know yourself more deeply, understand your own needs and wants, and vocalize feelings in ways that may not be possible in other relationships. I have found that through therapy, clients have found their own voice in other relationships - as they have been able to practice a new way of being within the safety of a therapy session.

I graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies. From there, I pursued my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy at Central Connecticut State University. I have worked as a research assistant on projects that range from infant stress levels to HIV testing in the LGBTQ population. My experience as a therapist has been in a variety of settings, from a rural youth and family services center, to in-home home family therapy, as well as urban outpatient therapy. I have supervised other therapists in their pursuit to becoming licensed and led trainings on therapeutic engagement and interventions. Most importantly, I love learning and continue to broaden my understanding of the world and field of therapy by engaging in new materials and trainings regularly.
